DIY cab/bed bushings/mounts??

My 69 is sitting on a 79 chassis. The PO has a mix of steel pipe and whatever else he could find to mount the cab on the mounts. I want to replace the cab mounts, bed mounts, rad support mounts but not sure if any kit will work because of the modifications. Has anyone had success fabricating their own bushings of any kind? I have heard of old schoolers using hockey pucks but not sure if this is a valid option. Thanks.

Re: DIY cab/bed bushings/mounts??

I've done hockey puck body lifts in the past grafting car bodies on blazer chassis. I'd drill the centers and install a hardened insert through the stack. Still they were kinda sketchy. I never made any other bushings though. I wonder how and where a guy could get the material for them? Bet it wont be cheap. I'll search around online a bit over coffee.

I would stray very far away from the hockey puck idea I've also seen wood block as a block lift lol some people just think of the weirdest things to get a lift

So it sounds like no miracle cures readily exist. Maybe i will just try my luck at a kit and see how everything goes together.

Im not exactly sure what you mean I don't think but are you talking about like a body lift being the spacers in between the body and frame or something else

Re: DIY cab/bed bushings/mounts??

If you check out my 71 build thread, I think towards the end I was working on body mounts and bushings. I got a bushing kit for the 71 truck and made my mounts with the right sized hole to fit the bushings. I've heard the hockey pucks work great, for a little while, but they're not made to hold the weight of a truck and will enventually break under the stress. Probably not the safest decision to use them...

There are places you can buy raw polyurethane bushing stock to make your own bushings..

I think this is what i am thinking of. http://www.jegs.com/p/Energy-Suspens...42834/10002/-1

I dont see how to adjust it though if necessary.

This is what i currently have. The radiator support looked stock.
