71 Cheyenne Project

Years ago I operated Rob's Rod Shop and worked on old cars and trucks for people. Mostly body and paint, but some mechanical things as well. After 12 years I closed the doors and switched my focus to my Automotive Cartoons.

This Summer I reopened Rob's Rod Shop, but with a different mission. I now restore Coke Machines, Gas Pumps and other rusty stuff like that, as well as doing my art.

My Brother in law heard "Shop" and "open" and now I have his 400 HP 383 powered 71 Chevy Cheyenne here. Deep down it is a really good truck, but has been sitting and really needs some attention.

I spent yesterday cleaning it up and getting it to run right again. The only problem I am having is everytime I put the TH350 in gear the truck dies. I worked on it and just couldn't figure it out. So, I am open to suggestions.

This week the 71 starts body work and to get it primer. I just have to rescue this truck!!!

Yes, for a little bit, that is how I moved it. If you let off, it dies. The motor is so strong, when i tried it, I ended up powerbraking and spinnng the tires!!!

Re: 71 Cheyenne Project

I did a motor swap on mine with a turbo 350, and it was doing the same thing I could keep it running but really ruff the motor is just over 500 horse. I checked for vaccum leaks around the intake, and brake booster ,adjusted the carb and timing ,plugs wires ,grounds all electrical the nuetral saftey switch. There was a small leak around the back of my intake that helped alittle, but the key thing was going with a new 3000 stall converter havent had a problem since. Hope this helps man.

Re: 71 Cheyenne Project

Motor and Tranny are in the Impala. The Truck has been sent to the scrapper, but not before it got raped for parts....Which caused a giant mess on its own!!!!

Re: 71 Cheyenne Project

Hey Rob,

What part of Oregon are you in? I have a girlfriend and a 64 SWB fleet in Oregon. I am in Michigan but get they way at least once every 6 weeks or so.

I have a 1972 just like your brother in laws here in Michigan that I tinker with.

I am wondering if you do art for just anyone or how do you operate your business?

Thanks,
Tom
