Battery wire routing ? Help.

I know this should be in electrical section, but
it has been several years since I tore down my 68
and went to buy a new battery and the guy asked
"which side do you want pos and neg posts?"
I took a lot of pictures and old computer died a pics gone with it.
Well I need a picture of stock arrangement.
Where positive is routed to starter and pos tail to junction.

Re: Battery wire routing ? Help.

as long as your cables are long enough it wont matter. but the positive should be on the right (closest to the fender)

Most of the pictures I have show the positive next to the radiator. You would have to turn the battery 180* to get the positive on the right and that puts the posts near the radiator shroud. If you have a side post battery it would be very difficult to connect the cables.

You can route the negative cable over to the positive and then both go straight down to the frame horn and back to the starter for the positive and to the engine block to the right of the fuel pump for the negative. The small positive wire would run to the right over to the right fender junction bolt. It has the fusible link in it.

Top post.
Looks like conflicting positions.
Would it make sense to hook positive next to fender
and pick up the small positive lead for general power ?

Re: Battery wire routing ? Help.

I put the positive on the outside because I think it makes cable routing more direct, but there is no hard and fast rule.

Just so you know--- if you do mount the negative cable where the picture shows, you must be careful to use a short bolt because the fuel pump rod is behind the hole and you could bind it with a bolt that is too long.I don't remember which hole goes through whether it's the top or bottom but just be aware of the possibility.

Re: Battery wire routing ? Help.

Good caution Vet.
I have a new crate 350 and noticed some of the bolt
hole location are through to water jacket.
Never thought of the fuel pump area.
