how to check for valve spring binding?

just installed comp cams extreme energy 262 kit on my vortec headed 350 and don't want to make any mistakes. how do I check the springs for binding as i dont want to cause any problems

uh reading up on it here in my small block build up book, it says that you need to know the manufacturer specs on the springs, then they say that you take the installed height(springs at rest) subtract the nominal solid height(compressed). so the resultant is the maximum allowable valve lift. To figure out how much you have now, take your max cam lift multiplied by your rocker arm ratio, Think this is what they mean. Hope that helps somewhat.

after you have the valves springs installed and the rockers...turn the engine over to max valve compression..take a feeler gauge(.060) I believe...and slide it between each ring of the coils of the spring..towards the bottom of the spring will be the tightest..and Jhickson is right..if your springs are installed at 1.650" and the cam has.500 lift..you have .150 left over..more than the .060
