Pig in a Poke
I just traded my rusted out 81 Chevy short wide with a 454/TH400 for a 61 Apache 10. My new truck has an olds 403/th350 that runs decently. The Rochester could use a freshening up as well as a few other things. We had only a few pics of each so the trade was for a pig in a poke. After looking over my new to me truck this weekend, I figure we both came out even when you consider condition of the trucks and the other guy delivered from the next state over with his gas money. I'm still trying to figure out what my plan is for it past getting it to daily driver reliability. The rear shocks are shot and new ones on order. The tires are pretty bad from sitting and the steering box is really loose. Basically, it's a project. I will probably ditch the cab lights. As for the color, I'm deciding between a light metalic blue or a bright red with the top painted white like Irish1966's green truck. His black steelies with skinny white walls are a good look too. I've got some 8" steel ralley's that could be black or I may use the mags wheels that are on it but paint them a dark brown like the Rustoleum Plymoth on Power Tour this year. If i go with blue it will have white scallops and a Watson panel paint job if i go red, it will have black and white flames. I may moove teh fender trim back to compensate for teh missing door trim. Any thoughts?

Re: Pig in a Poke
Does anyone know what this master cylinder is from? It was converted to an automatic at some point. I may add a booster/cylinder and shave the firewall eventually.

That looks like a great truck. Good luck on your project. If you're getting rid of the cab lights, what do you want for them. I might be interested.

Re: Pig in a Poke
I removed the worn old coil over shocks and broke a bolt. I'll have to get new fasteners tomorrow. Removing the old ones dropped it over an inch, just 3 more to go. The hood hinges are messed up as well and need some help. Any pointers on the hinges? I also called the folks at H&H Classic Chevy and got great customer service on some small bits. They saved me $9 on the shipping.

PDXHALL, I'll go $20 plus shipping for the lights. Are you good with that? What address?

Re: Pig in a Poke
That master cylinder was used on the '60-'62's with an auto trans, and on the '63's with an auto or manual trans.
If you want to convert to power brakes, let me know. I have the brackets for that. Links in my sig. \/ \/ \/

Nice to see a 61 build tread, good lookin truck. Is that a gun rack in the back window? Also do you have the molding for the doors, seems like its a trend to have it all but the doors. I found a guy if your in need of the molding but his prices are to high for me.

Re: Pig in a Poke
What range is he asking? I'm thinking about just moving the fender trim back until I find the proper pieces for the doors. Getting it on the road is the priority budgetwise right now. That is a gun rack in the back. I'm debating whether to leave it or not. I don't have any guns so it may be just to hang my hat on.

Re: Pig in a Poke
I think he said 225 just for one door molding, willing to ship. He also has hoods, doors, alum grills, and bowtie v emblems. I will send you the contact info if you need it, haven't spoke to him in about 2 months, Last we talk he had 5 complete sets mixed between long and short, and several different pieces in boxes.

Re: Pig in a Poke
Ouch! $225? I think I'll do with out for a bit. I have a few potential places to look first. There used to be a local salvage yard with several, but they all got crushed a couple years ago. My buddy and I got a few parts back then.

Re: Pig in a Poke
Well let me know what you find. Im in need of just 1 door peice, drivers door to be specific, Do you know if left and right doors are different? I was told that gmc trim is the same on the doors, please keep me posted on your findings. Good luck. This trim is like gold. Almost.

Re: Pig in a Poke
Someone had "shaved" the stake pockets with wood plugs and silicone. I had to use a wood screw and crowbar to get the wood out. From the way the paint is faded and the old shocks i think it had a camper on it for a while.

Re: Pig in a Poke
I got new clips for all four headlights from H&H Classic Chevy Parts delivered to my door for only $23 the day after I called them. Great customer service!
I had to drill out all the rivets to get them in and replace all the mismatched hardware. One of the bulbs was bad and full of water. |

Re: Pig in a Poke
I've been working a bunch of over time and haven't gotten much done on the truck lately. I did grab a much better fender off of my '60 parts truck. Here are pics of the old one that somebody patched with window screen and bondo. The front was mangled pretty bad too.

Re: Pig in a Poke
Here are some pics of my older/better fender. It isn't great, but it's what i've got. I did have to use a bit of skim bondo on it though. There is no captured nut on the lower dog leg so i'll have to fab something. How were these originally attached?

Re: Pig in a Poke
Weld a tee nut in the hole to make your new threads. Just cut the little metal gripper prongs off so it sits flat and you will have new threads to bolt the bottom of your fender. These tee nuts can be found at any hardware store.

Re: Pig in a Poke
I used parts from some extra 1960 hood grills to clean up my correct to my truck 1961 hood grills. The lenses aren't perfect, but are better than whet came on the truck. I may try to find some LED bulbs to go behind. I painted the lens buckets silver on the inside also. I'm going to repaint the 61 hood grills with black and silver. The 60 hood grills with junk lenses will head to ebay.
