1972 Body Panels
My ebay truck just arrived and it is not as good as I would have hoped. Both doors are rusted through on the bottoms and on the fronts. The tailgate is not pretty, and the bed floor is bowed in places and rusted through in some.
Anybody ever patch both door skins and bottoms on their doors? How about repairing the bed floor? Where would you purchase replacement body panels? Thanks |

Almost all of the main aftermarket parts suppliers for these trucks carry body panles, and patch panels. Lots of vendors right here on this site that can offer them to you.

Not sure where the benefit would be in using that. I've seen entire floor patches that are not that expensive if you needed to use the entire thing.

How much you think for an entire floor patch? I was looking and think the front is around $225 and rear the same. Looks like entire floors are around $1000. Ever done a floor patch? How hard you think it would be to make a new floor from 2 new panels and end up with a premium floor?
Regarding the Doors do you think it is worth fixing them? Door skins look to be around $70 and inner door bottoms look to be around $25. Door shells seem to be going for around $300. Obviously shipping adds to the cost of all the aforementioned. I live in Connecticut. Would be great if I could find a rust free bed and good doors. I welcome input. Thanks |

looking at Goodmarkindustries.com, I see entire floors with braces and without braces going from 300-500, not sure what the price fluctuates from at other locations.
Doors, I share your problems.. I have been looking for a solid driver door lately and have not found much luck. I am going to attempt to find a very good welder and repair my door with just panels. |

Looking to do it myself. I don't have a ton of experience doing body work but have restored a 72 cheyenne super years ago and a 55 belaire they both came out really nice but that was cause I just kept working on it until it came out right. The Pickup I restored is the only vehicle I applied finish to. I have a good friend that will paint this after I do all prep work.

The Bed Floors are expencive. Expencive to ship also. However depending on how bad your floor is, may be a good answer for you. I have installed the bed floors and the fit is great. However be prepaired to pay the price for shipping. The last floor I had shipped out to me cost $650.00 in shipping alone. WES

I don't know if you can call it experience. I am not really a gear head or grease monkey. I had a couple of vehicles in the past that I restored but had a friend that kinda coached me. I don't really have any tools body work tools right now but my brother has a welder I can bring to my house and a good friend is a good welder. Another friend/ acquantance has been a friend of my brothers for 30 years or so. He has owned an operated a high class autobody shop and painted many vehicles for my brother. He told me if I do the prep work he will do base coat clear coat two tone inside and out door jambs and everything for around $1500. I don't think I would even attempt to spray it myself with that offer. But now I have to deal with the disappointing condition of my ebay purchase. Need to get this thing prepared. This vehicle is for my 14 year old son. Hopefully we will work on it together and he can become a masterful welder/ body man. I hope he will have a beautiful restored 1972 with air that he will cherish and admire.

How far are you willing to drive to save shipping? We sell the Bed floors for $899.95 If you are willing to drive to Lynchburg, VA. you can save about $300.00 on shipping. And you can pick up most if not all of your sheetmetal parts while there. WES

I got deeeep into my doors
 it was a bunch of work but depending how bad yours are it may be worth it. I kept hearing how aftermarket doors fit like crap so I just decided to fix mine. I will tell you that all the lower inner panels that I have dealt with don't fit all too well and will take some convincing to get just right. The aftermarket door skins on the other hand seemed to fit really well.Brandon

Here are a few more... Still have to redo the passenger side cab corner to get it to fit right with the rocker but you can see the fit is great on both sides.

Very nice work Bcutt! How many hours you think you had in the that door repair? Was that sound deadening insulation? Where did you get it? How much it cost? How much do you think you have total in the door repair?

Well since I got a lot deeper into these doors than most would I would say I have 30 hours in each door and about $125 in materials in each door. Yes that is sound deadening in the doors and it is not cheap. I think enough to do both doors was about $80 plus I used the extra under my new roof skin. I got it from TP Tools. At least I can now say these doors are 100% rust free and not aftermarket, should be good for another 40 years plus!!

Regarding doors. Presently the windows are not in my doors. All I have is the triangular window that is surrounded with chrome. I do not have any rubber or housing/frame for the vent window. I do have the window glass. If I order a channel kit would that include the necessary parts to house and seal the vent window as well as the divider that separates the main window from the vent window?

 in regards to your bed and doors. Around here its hard to get oem/nos parts so ask around if thats the method you want to take. shipping would be high but its all good stuff. another option you could do is find/convert the bed to wood.
