Found a '72 Longhorn Highlander on eBay

Found a Longhorn on eBay and wanted to pass it along.... no funds.
Anyway its a C20 Longhorn with the Highlander Group C (max savings $$$)options. White with white/blue plaid. Attached is the SPID the seller sent me that I have annotated. Seller claims very little rust but the primer(?)along the rockers and door bottoms is certainly a concern.
Love to have it for a dog truck, but right now I have a kennel full of Huskies to feed and pups for sale.

Sweeeet... highhorns are pretty scarce! I wonder about that visor area rust though. Also I think the blue on outside may not be original, it isn't on the SPID

Nice truck, wonder what the reserve is? As mentioned I'd have concern's about the primered area and the rust around/in the drip rail area

That's a decent group of options...AM/FM! It's hard to know if it has rust issues in the gutter or the header panel inside without looking (or getting an honest description). The surface rust doesn't concern me. I'm thinking some rust may have started where that primer is,but maybe not. Maybe it swiped something and was repaired. I'd want better pictures for sure.

Re: Found a '72 Longhorn Highlander on eBay

The blue middle band must not be original since its not on the SPID. I see the upper trim is part of the highlander package- didn't know that til now. I tried to get pics of this truck before but he declined to give them, even when I had a reasonable bid already on the truck.

Re: Found a '72 Longhorn Highlander on eBay

I was bidding on this truck for my close friend. This spring I finally got him converted to 67-72's so he's been looking for something for months now. We're going to look at a 4x4 and if its no good, may bid on this truck again for him.

Re: Found a '72 Longhorn Highlander on eBay

The owner sent me a picture of the data plate. The blue is obviously post factory by the amount of peeling in the jamb area. But I think it might be a match of the Hawaiian Blue 510 factory color. Also its a 5/72 build per the cert. sticker.

That would be late enough in production to be a highlander so that checks out.

Did he send any pics of the rust prone areas?

Re: Found a '72 Longhorn Highlander on eBay

No, I don't really have any pictures beyond those in the current eBay listing. I do however have a larger shot of the data plate and post. Show the peeling blue, possible white repaint and a splash of primer.

Re: Found a '72 Longhorn Highlander on eBay

Anyone know what rear axle ratio would have been standard in this truck. It has an Eaton rear.

Don't know! '72 powerteam specs. show a 5500# Dana 4.10 as standard for leaf rear C20 with LS9 350 engine.

Re: Found a '72 Longhorn Highlander on eBay

define cheap for a good running late model truck.
Add the 'cheap' parts for getting the engine/trans/ECU worrking in an old truck.

I know it can be done on the cheap, but not often. And it'll take a butt load of miles to pay for its self.

Now I'm regretting not advising my friend to hit the buy it now. Seemed like a pretty good deal if the seller was being honest.
