My 1986 305

My 86 305 motor started a deep knocking last week. I am changing out the motor with a GM 350 replacement from scoggin dickey (they advertise on this site). SD shows the stock 350 with 249 hp. All of the rebuilt crate motors available show 330hp. Is 249hp what a stock 350 puts out? I thought it would have been more.

The basic GM 350 puts out 290hp. Not sure which one SD is selling.

Check this out, i pulled it from chucks chevy truck page. That 250 hp rating is better than stock.

Re: My 1986 305

You also need to keep in mind that many of the advertised horsepower ratings for crate engines (not stock engines) are for engines equipped with a "performance intake", a 4-bbl carb, and headers. If you're planning on swapping over your crappy iron intake and 2-bbl carb from your stock engine, you're not gonna see the power you expect to.
