Does this look OK

I need your input.
I dailed in the distributor like the manual reads.
Number 1 valve closed and Harmonic time up.
Does my rotor look good? Directin correct facing Number 1 piston>
I want to install this weekend and want to try to reduce problems.
Looking at the downloaded photos I realize I have some cleaning to do!

Re: Does this look OK

Doesn't matter if pointing toward #1 "piston" per se (unless that is a rule of thumb in the manual) - what matters is what it's pointing to relative to your distributor cap. If you were to put your distributor cap on right now, and the rotor is pointing to approx the #1 plug wire tower, then you're good to go.

If everything is exactly TDC'ed - and you want to build in a LITTLE bit of initial timing advance, then go for it - but half the time it's done in the wrong direction. Bottom line, when you crank it, if it doesn't start, be ready to adjust the distro slightly to set some advance. Best way to do all this is to set your crank so that your desired initial timing advance is set at the pointer - i.e. not quite TDC - and then confirm rotor points EXACTLY to the point where it just engages the #1 spark plug wire tower on the cap (you will have to install/remove the cap a few times to visualize it's all kinda right. Get it close, so it starts, then set initial timing with a light after it starts.

Re: Does this look OK

Take some sand paper and sand the timing tab till you can see the lines on it, Then take a small file and clean the paint out if the grove in the damper or paint it black. This way when you get it running you can set the timing with your timing light. What I do when stabbing a distributor is take the cap and pick what terminal is going to be number one or it still has the wires look to see where number one is. Mark the cap with a sharpy and then install it. Transfer the mark to the distributor. Then when set number 1 to tdc on the compression stroke and drop the distributor in you can see where the rotor need to point. Pick a good place for the vacuum advance to allow it to be adjusted with out running into something. Drop it in and if needed roll the ending over to get it to line up with the oil pump shaft. Once it is in and seated continue to roll the engine till it has gone two full revolutions. Now line up the timing marks and then turn the distributor till the rotor lines up with the mark on the distributor. Should be close enough to let the engine start.
