Assembly Manual/Caulk

Can someone post a pic of how the Assembly Manual shows to lay the sealer on the windshield channel?

It may be hard to read but I think you can make it out.

Re: Assembly Manual/Caulk

Getting ready to reinstall my windshield in the next few days. Anyone have tips, stories or general advise before I reinstall?

Buy a few small toilet plungers, then cut the handles short. Makes moving the glass easier.

Re: Assembly Manual/Caulk

I already have cups for glass. I install windshields on a regular basis but this will be my first using the rope method.

Re: Assembly Manual/Caulk

I remember reading in the service manual very good directions on using the rope method for replacing windshield, I'll try to post it when I get home. Unless someone else can put it up.

Cheers,

Re: Assembly Manual/Caulk

I found a local glass guy that takes them out and puts them in for $20 a panel. I know I would break them as soon as I tried.. Had him remove the big side rear windows and the rear barn door glass on the Burb and reinstall with new gaskets last spring and then had him take the windshield out of the Blazer before it went to paint. He made it look easy but he did have a helper to palm and move the big panels on the inside. Since you do glass, should be fairly easy for you. His cord was about 1/4" in diameter.

Re: Assembly Manual/Caulk

Here's the info from the service manual: Hopefully it's not overkill, some of the figures are several pages after it references them.

Cheers,

Re: Assembly Manual/Caulk

This was from the service manual, there's also an overhaul manual and a factory assembly manual.

Cheers,
of the 3 manuals you mention - which is the best or do you really need all 3?

Re: Assembly Manual/Caulk

It depends on what you want to do. The factory assembly manual is just that a no frills manual to assemble the truck, the overhaul manual covers how to overhaul the engine, trans, rearend, etc., the service manual covers routine and not so routine maintenance, e.g. replace timing belt, alternator, etc. So, again it depends on what you're planning, you may want to start with the service manual and go from there.

Cheers and happy building,
