yeah, it's me again! lol
Whether I use leaf springs or not, I'd like to get this frame/leaf spring pivot thing out of the frame!~ what's going on here and how I make it like new? This is on the front frame rail, the top shackle goes over this.

If you just want the metal piece out, they usually just unscrew, unless they are rusted in there! Try some penetrating oil or heat, like a torch.

If you want the whole bracket out then you have to remove the rivets and it will just come off.

They turn, about 1/4 turn, and I soaked them with wd40, they just seem so solid! I'll try again tomorrow, I just don't want to drag the torch into it yet, there's undercoating in that area. So, bfh!

You dont have to torch them out, just heat them up and then turn them out. But a BFH will do the trick also. Just depends on how stable your jack stands are!

When I put new bushings in my rear I just removed the rivets and removed the brackets from the frame and used a press. No way pounding them out on the frame would have worked in my case.

Bolted everything up with grade 8 3/8" bolts.

Since they will turn a little, forget the WD-40.
You need PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, CRC KnockerLoose etc.
Spray, wiggle back and forth, spray, wiggle, etc,etc
Or acetylene torch.

Read a article about a guy swearing by 50/50 ATF/Acetone said it worked like no other.

Cut the tip off with a cutoff wheel, then use a cobalt drill bit and drill it out of the frame.

I ground the heads of my rivets and pounded them out with a sledge hammer and a punch, started with a regular hammer but found I needed to hit them about 50 times each, about 5 of which I smacked my finger or something. Sledge is only a few hits.

Justplainray has the right suggestion in that you need something better to cut the rust than WD-40. Soak it down and wait a bit and try turning it back and forth and then do it again.

Leaving the rest of the bracket in the frame won't hurt anything except the appearance if you are worried about that. You don't have to feed it or carry water to it so it won't be any trouble taking it along for the ride.

Since he mentioned he may use leaf springs again, to replace the whole pivot assmebly, aside from the piece that screws out, there is also the bushing that that piece screws into, which is pressed into the cast piece that is riveted to the truck frame.

To get this part out, that is where I removed the rivets, and put the brackets in the press. Wasnt coming out on the truck beating on the center piece or with a bushing the same sized to attempt to beat the outer piece out.

That frame has a lot more paint on it than what you see up here in the midwest...

Well, I got one of the leaf spring (perches?) off. Kind of a booger! My drill bit selection is kind of sparse since my brother borrowed them! argh! Don't you hate it when someone borrows your tools(consumables) and get them back useless! Guess I'll go back to ACE and buy some new ones. I wonder is O'reilly's has a press to press out the entire gut of this thing. I beat on it with a hammer and it did move the bushing a little, but going back with new ones, I don't want to damage the new stuff.

Howdy!
I just had to remove them as said earlier! I"m gong to take these things to a machine shop and have them media blasted, the old stuff pressed out and the new pressed in! Drilling the rivets worked well(as long as one has good drill bits), then put them in my vise to knock the rivets out. I just couldn't knock the other parts out! May as well have it done correctly.

I get lots of mileage out of drill bits by sharpening them.I do it by hand so I don't need a drill grinder.
