What's the best way to fix this?
I spent my day rubbing out, polishing and waxing my 69 just encase i took it to the show later this week. I decided to clean out the interior and while I was vacuuming, I saw this little rusty spot and started poking around and discovered this- this truck has spent it's life in SoCal and has been in the family since 1974-never thought I would see this-anyways, what is the best way to fix it? ( I really know, but I want to see if there are alternatives since it's small). If I need to weld it, what's a good welder to get or??????

Re: What's the best way to fix this?
That looks a bit too big to just wire wheel and por, I think.
Best way to fix it and ensure it won't return is to cut out the infected area and weld in a patch. Probably not what you wanted to hear but it will be done right. I'm sure the rest of the truck warrants a decent repair. As for a welder, I have a basic Lincoln 100 with a gas conversion and it hasn't let me down once. I can weld guard rails with this thing if I need to.

If you do not want to cut and weld it (time and $$$ if you do not have a welder) clean it up and POR it. It may not be the "best" way to do it, but it will last the rest of your lifetime. If you are looking to give welding a try, then go for it, that is a good area to learn on.

My '67 had the same problem on both sides, but even worse. I cut out the rusted areas and treated them with rust inhibitior and made patch panels and welded them in.
You should also remove all the padded material to see if any more problems are hidding underneath.

odds are there is a leak on the passenger side cowl... very common. May wanna look into fixing that before you do anything.

Re: What's the best way to fix this?
ahhhh, the second common leak that drips on the floor.
It usually leaks in the actual cowl, where the windshield wiper arms come up through. The bottom of that cowl vent is over your feet (as seated in the truck) on the inside of the cab. |

Windshield sealer will cure that.
