Temperature Sender Adapter - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've seen many threads on the topic of a 1/2" temperature sender not fitting in the 3/8" whole in the block of a newer 5.7L, and I ended up going with a galvanized 90 degree step up adapter to solve the problem.

My question is, will I get an accurate reading if the end of the sender probe touches the inside metal of the adapter? I'm thinking that the metal would get hotter than the coolant which would give an incorrect reading. What do you guys think?

there is a guy on here that turned the stock size sender down and cut the correct thread for a good price. ill contact him if you want?

Yeah sure. Thanks. What do you think about the way I have it set up currently? You think the probe touching the metal will cause an inaccurate reading?

i dont think the 90 adapter is a good idea. plus it kinda looks hoakie?

Sign me up for one as well. I had to install it on my intake and don't like it there. Would love to be able to move it down to the block.

I drilled and tapped a new hole. Only took about 25 minutes including manifold R&R. 1/2 NTP tap and 23/32 drill bit.

I tried either a 90 or a T fitting years ago on a friend's car and the gauge wouldn't read right. My guess was that the fitting creates a space where the coolant doesn't circulate through (just sits static) .

I was thinking about doing that but after thinking about it awhile, and coming to the same conclusion as dmack, I decided to just screw the 1/2" sender into the intake manifold. It reads a bit low, but as long as I can see the coolant temp behavior I'm good with that.
