Passed inspection!!!
Today, after months of work, mostly on electrical problems, I passed the Massachusetts state vehicle inspection.
Nothing electrical worked when the project began. Mass requires all lights, signals, wipers, floor rust holes, exhaust noise, and windows to be as new (window cracks, exhaust louder than factory new, hazy light covers will get a fail). No emissions standards for these old guys thankfully. The only scare I had was the exhaust noise. Mine is LOUD, with headers, a glasspack exhaust, and shortened pipes I shouldn't have passed. But all electrical was upgraded and working thanks to American Auto Wire and a few replacements of switches and wiper motor. I drove up to an inspection station and told the guy I needed a sticker but wasn't going to pull in if he was going to fail me for exhaust noise. He asked what year it is ('72), and he said he doesn't know what a '72 Chevy truck stock looks or sounds like. So he got my $29 and I got the sticker. Now I can drive legally and without fear of any passing cop pulling me over, ticketing me, and having my truck towed away. Before and after sticker in window, and the short exhaust pics below. Finally I can enjoy my driver! |

Re: Passed inspection!!!
Real glad to hear that it passed inspection and you can drive it. I really enjoy driving these old trucks, reminds me of simpler times in my life.

Re: Passed inspection!!!
Congrats, it's a nice feeling passing state inspection.
In ME, I did have to fix the exhaust on my '73. State Police up there have the authority to pull your sticker if you have a violation. (loud exhaust, busted glass, etc)

Re: Passed inspection!!!
So weird when I read about having to have inspections like this. Not required here. Congrats on passing!
Side note: Anything I drive on the road would pass that inspection easily. No way I would drive something that was unsafe or catch the eye of Johnny Law lol

Re: Passed inspection!!!
Congrats! I remember one time in North Carolina when they would not pass it until they could hear the horn sound. I tried and tried and finally got the most pitiful squeak out of it, and that was good enough!

Re: Passed inspection!!!
I have gone to the same station for about 10 years. I also went to school with the inspector and we have been going to shows for a few years together too, so he knows my truck intimately so-to-speak. takes about 5 minutes. I drive up, sound the horn with turn signals going and he gets the sticker ready. $14.00 and Im gone.
