hog out 16" wheels to fit hub?

I have a set of 6-lug 16" rallys, but the hub holes are too small for my front 4WD hubs. I was thinking about having them hogged out by a machinist, but don't want to have one crack off on the freeway.

Do you think opening them up would cause a problem? Need to go about 1/4" bigger if I remember right.
