My budget build..... lol

So I purchased a Great Project 69 Custom GMC Longbed Fleetside with a little 400 ci sbc for only 1500 six weeks ago. Today after coming back from Kragen with a new Edelbrock 600 cfm and an air gap manifold she decided for fun to add up my build so far. 3200 in 6 weeks not counting the truck price. However this has allowed me to replace the buckets with a bench, re-wire the truck, buy a few more tools (including a mig welder to fill holes in the bed rails.) replace the radio and speakers, new oil pan, adn a full gasket kit for the engine. So I think I'm doing pretty good.

So I decide to go ahead and remove the old manifold tonight. Got out the breaker bar, socket set, put my wrench on the first bolt and twisted slightly to hold the socket steady while I put a breaker bar on it.....and it turned. So now that I have removed my barely more than finger tight manifold bolts..the last two I removed with a 1/4 inch drive just so I could say I had done it lol.. I am scared that the gentlemen I bought the truck from did the same high quality work on the rest of the engine he supposedly rebuilt.

So Tomorrow I am planning to peek into the side of the heads, and remove the covers checking for loose parts, and checking the torque on the bolts. I figured I should probably check my timing chain, while I'm down, and remove the oil pan to check the underside of the engine. Anything else anyone can recommend I check? I was tempted to pull my heads real quick and check the piston walls and valve seats, but I'm not sure if it is necessary.

Any advice?
