Speedo cable reinstall
Layed down on the ground today to check and see why the speedometer cable on my 83 1 ton dually 4x4 hasn't worked for the last month or so. It didn't take me long to find out. There it was hanging down along side of the tranny. I noticed the cable is attached to a block that is attached to the tranny. My dilemma is reattaching the block to the tranny.
Any tech help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Speedo cable reinstall
There should be a tab that rides in a groove on the "block" or cylinder that goes inside the plug, and a little bolt attaches the tab to the trans case...this was on a 3 spd, but this is pretty typical for how the cable attaches.

Re: Speedo cable reinstall
By "box" are you referring to a gear reduction box, like this?
If so, it simply screws onto the "bullet" that's inside the transmission, which contains the driven gear. |

Re: Speedo cable reinstall
Mine doesn't have the nipple on the transmission side. It is flat with what looks to be a sliding pin to lock it to the gear on the transmission. Looks like maybe there are a couple of different styles.
