Heater AC blower box

Can the 88-98 CK blower box be removed without pulling the rest of the heater box?
I'm noodling how to add a serviceable cabin filter between the fan and the intake or fan and evaporator. I'd like to permanently keep my evaporator clean and maybe keep the dirt down a little in the cab.

I'll get over to Corseys salvage yard this weekend to look one over if I can.
