quick question again
if i welded a piece of tubing from one trailing to the other horizontally, would they still function the same?

I don't think you want something rigid between them, they need to be able to flex independently of each other for uneven surfaces.

No they won't. You would loose articulation (sp). When one wheel went up or down due to road inconsistancies, the other would do the same. It would be funny though, to see you bouncing all over the road
 As long as no one got hurt too badly

It would depend on where it was at. If it were right under the axle, it shouldn't make a difference, but further up could cause problems.
The reason I say this, is the axle is rigid between the control arms, so I don't see what difference a bar would make there. The arms have to twist a little further up to allow one side to travel more than the other.
