Is engine compartment wiring harness on an '82 chevy the same as an '87?

Hey guys I need to order a wiring harness for my truck. I have an '87 fuse block & '87 taillight and headlight wiring harness.

Is the engine compartment wiring harness plug on an '82 chevy the same as an '87?

I just need to make sure the '82 harness will fit on the '87 fuse block.

Thanks!

(Running a sb400 CI now. No need for the extra wires that the '87 tbi had plus the engine compartment wires were ate up and unusable.)

i would have no idea but it may be worth finding a phone number for Painless Wiring and asking them if their 82 harness will fit into the 87 connector on your truck.. I assume that they mimick the factory setup

I may call painless just to see what they say...

I called wiringharness.com and they said they only carried stuff as late as '82 so they do not know if it will work on an '87. I asked if they could take a picture of the plug and they said No, because of legality agreements with gm that they are prohibited from distributing any information other than sales.

I'm stumped... Perhaps if I could see a plug from an '82 maybe it would help.

The engine harness for an '82 c.i. is around $144.00, I would hate to buy something that expensive that did not fit...

I would think the 87 would have a few more wires on it than an 82 under the hood. Think of all the extra sensors on the motor for the TBI and such. I know the wire looms themselves would be different, so I would really think the plug would be a tad different somehow as well.

I have an 82 sitting here on my lot that I'm going to part out locally. If I get to it this weekend I'll snap you a photo of the firewall connections if it'd help.
