69 LWB drop
Hi guys, new to the site here. Ive had a 69 gmc lwb for 3 years now that i am finally getting around to working on this winter. Looking to lower it enough to get most of the air space out from between the fenders and tires with out worrying about tire rubbing fenders. I am running 215/70 R15 tires up front and 285/70 R15 tires in the rear. Just wondering if anyone has an idea of what kind of drop i can get away with? I know i have atleast 5" to spare in the fenders, does this mean i would be safe to go down 4"? Also i see its pretty standard to lower the rear 2" more than the front. Is this just to level the truck? I kind of like the rear end up like it sits now, would this mean i want to drop it the same in the rear as the front? I was planning on using the grand slam kit from CPP including the disc brake conversion and upgrading to the modular spindles, any one else have any different suggestions?
Any help is greatly appreciated, ill try to figure out how to get pictures of it up here soon. |

Re: 69 LWB drop
It's tough to really say by measuring your current wheel gap because you can't account for how much sag you have in your current springs. However, a 4/6 is pretty common or a 3/5 and you should probably be ok...someone with around that tire size can help more though.
As for the rake...you are right in that the 2" more in the rear levels it out. The thing is, the rake at stock height isn't as evident as it is when lowered, especially when you have no gap in the front a big one in the rear. Most of the 4/6's still have somewhat of a rake to them, so search the static drop thread pics before you make a purchase... Good luck!

Re: 69 LWB drop
Also as much as a want to get rid of gap between fender and tires i really don't want to get into doing the c notch on the rear frame, does this put a new limit on things? Ive read everything from 4" is the most you can do in the rear to you can get away with 6" before worrying about a c notch. If it matters much the bed of the truck will never see a load besides the fuel cell in the front.

I read alot of good stuff about them but kind of really like the way cpp's grand slam kit looks, anyone have an opinion one way or another on either of these?

Re: 69 LWB drop
Called and talked to ECE today, definitely ordering from them! Only question left is do i stick with the standard 4/6 or do i do a 4.5/6 like the guy i linked to from my search, i love how his looks in pictures but right now my front tires are smaller than his. Tires could always be changed though.
