steering column movement
I just put a different steering wheel on and I've noticed when I pull the wheel towards me, I have about 3/8 to 1/2 inch movement. I never paid any attention to this before because I've never pulled on the wheel. Is this normal? Is there a way to stop this(other than don't do it)?

there should be a bracket that has a couple bolts to the firewall and it is shaped to the contour of your columb, with a clamp going around it, that is all i can think of....

Rag joint will cause about that much give when the steering wheel's not torqued down. I suggest removing the horn cap and tightening down the steering wheel nut. Shouldn't have much give after that.

I machined about that much of the back of the wheel so I could I could use my old horn ring. Should that matter or should I try to shim it to pull the play out? The new wheel had a tapered collar that was removed to flatten it out.
