Need suggestions for a family hauler
I'm looking for suggestions on an older vehicle to restore that will seat 4. With our limited income, a new car is out of the question, even if I liked any of them. I'm looking for something that has some nice lines, preferably something you can still get parts for, but isn't so popular that a decent one costs a small fortune. There is a 63 4 door nova in town i've had my eye on. That would be awesome with an LS transplant and a 5 or 6 speed.
Seriously though, something I can build into a run around town car, and maybe a road trip or two and gets better than 13mpg. Our durango gets 13 highway/9 city and is starting to be a real pain. Thanks. |

Re: Need suggestions for a family hauler
I would like a 55-57 Chevy wagon, always liked the lines and real easy to get parts for also easy to update. In Iowa they can be bought for $1500-$2500 in fairly good shape

Re: Need suggestions for a family hauler
look for something that isnt all that pretty, a station wagon or a larger 4door car like a dodge or chrysler. the least popular/pretty the car the cheaper it will be.

Re: Need suggestions for a family hauler
I've fantasized about a first-gen Nova wagon with the 3.6 V6/6-speed manual from a new Camaro or Caddy CTS. It's big enough to fit four people and their stuff, plus you get 300hp and 30mpg on the highway...
