Post Oil Pressure Problem

Well the rebuilt has been in for a week now, it runs and sounds great but today only while on the Freeway at high speed the Oil Pressure sometimes drops WAY down and right back up again, it happend four or five times in a ten min period, any ideas?

somtimes assembly lube can do a number on your oil filter try changing the oil and filter and tell us if it worked

most of the time it reads a steady low pressure but i thought i would mention it anyhow

Are you running a mechanical guage?? I had problems with the factory one and switched to a triple gauge Sunpro. No fluctuations since. Good luck!

Dumb question here, you have checked the level haven't you?
I'd change it too.

We just changed the oil a couple of days ago, I checked it and it's good. They ran it with a gauge and it was fine, I'm thinking it's the factory gauge just jumping around, I hope.

I had the same thing happen after I tore down my 402 and put in a new cam. Scared the crap out of me. I have to assume it was rtv sealant or assembly lube in the gauge line or something like that.

I switched engines a couple of years ago and ever since my oil guage goes off the scale at start up - only to run "normal" after warm-up. Factory guages do strange stuff! Lee

Yeah, my factory gauge with the old 350 went way past the High pressure line at startup, and would sit there pegged until warm up, then it would go all the way down and the needle would sit on the "L" Line, when I finally got a cheap aftermarket gauge, I had about 2 lbs of psi at hot idle in gear...pretty good huh? LOL I recommend buying a cheap little wal mart Oil psi gauge and installing it under the dash for the time being, to see if perhaps the factory gauge is just being odd, anything is possible.
