After working many hard hours,I thought today I might finally be able to drive my truck. So I went and bought a new 5 gallon gas can. As I was filling it up the top plastic ext. hose came off and went right down into my gas tank, My heart sunk! I said heck I might as well drive this,so started it then backed up,right over my new GMPP air cleaner. I was pretty sick,so I just came in!

Do you think I have to take the gas tank out?

I would take out the fuel filter float a d see if I could reach I thru there

When getting my truck ready it took at least three solid weekends of work so hang in there

This probably won't make you feel any better but I tell my dad when we have a ruff time at the shop,"if it were easy everybody would do it". Meaning not everyone has the ablity to work on these things. I was in a bookstore once looking for some reference books and these two guys were standing and talking about these cars in this book and how they would love to get their hands dirty. I told them I rebuilt wrecks and restored musclecars and had a body shop. These guys were lawyers and made 100's of thousands a year and said they would trade it all to be able to do what I do for a living. One other and this might help, I was at the dragsone time my ol chevelle giving me the blues aold timer 70's-80;s walked up and said feller if it's got tires on it or boobies [he used a T word] if will cause trouble

I would try and fish it out, if it was me the plastic would disintegrate and plug the fuel filter when I am the farthest from any cell phone coverage and home.

I just thought of something ! Maybe that plastic will float fill the tank and you might be able to get it!.

Fill er up about 3/4 full then jack up the right side, it should float up where you can get at it with a coat hanger and flashlight.

Ya I think you can just fish it out. If tank filler is to hard to use through that hole you can try to take the sending unit out if you can get at it better.

I have a gas can that's over 20 years old. True, the hose hasn't been sitting in the gas the whole time, but I really don't think it's going to dissolve. I wouldn't worry too much, unless it gets tangled up in your sending unit.

The plastic fuel tank's sole job in life is to hold and dispense fuel, I would think it would not disintegrate when submerged in it.

I agree with filling it up, jacking the passenger side. With one exception. Get one of those red grabber thingys (not the technical name). Im sure you have seen them before, they are flexable about 3 foot long when you push the button on the handle end little wire claws come out.Good Luck. found a pic

I had part of the gas station rubber nozzle come off in my tank. I would get it out of there. You can drain the gas get it out and have the gas tank bak in in less than an hour. The gas station paid me $600 for this since they knew it was bad and did not repair the nozzle. Only 8 bolts holding the tank along with the eight for the seat.
