Any reason to toggle the fuel guage on a one tank truck?

Three wires run from my fuel gauge. One to ground. One to engine bay then under truck to near my only fuel tank where it hangs unconnected. One through a toggle switch to an end that is haning under the dash but has a male spade prong on it so I suspect it should be plugged into one of the ignition outlets on the fuse box.

This would let the ignition power to the gauge be turned on/off with the toggle.

It isn't the original fuel tank toggle in the center of the dash. The original is disconnected. This is a little toggle a prior owner attached under the dash near the parking brake.

Seems to me with only one tank you would want the fuel gauge to always have power to run.
