Is this a rare trans?

Looked at a truck today with a 3 on the tree. It had a trans listed on the SPID. It was a little faded but believe it to read 4M17AB 3 SPD TRANS. Is this a borg warner? Wasn't that the desirable one?

Re: Is this a rare trans?

If it's listed it's the HD one. I don't know the numbers off hand.

Re: Is this a rare trans?

What distinguishes a HD 3-spd? I had a 3-spd one time that had an extra mounting tab in the top center. Looked like every other 3-spd otherwise. When I had it at the swap meet guys would stop and stare. Some said it was a heavy duty truck trans.

May be that this one is fully synchronized and the standard issues were not?

Either way, I'm wondering if this 68 C10 I've spotted is more valuable because it has this?

Anyone have the '68 code book? M 17 is the option.

Re: Is this a rare trans?

It's not more valuable to most people. There may be a few people that would pay more, but you have to find the right one. The things that make it more valuable are the things that a lot of people are willing to pay more for like tach, tilt, tow hook, cheyenne super, short bed, etc.
If you are looking to resell I wouldn't pay any more for that truck than any other truck.
