torsion bar turn???

Hey guys, I'm always hearing about a torsion bar turn/twist on these IFS trucks. I have a 95 K1500 with a 2" body lift. I'd like to raise the front end 1-2" to level out the trucks stance. How would I go about this process? Does it have any negative effects on suspension/steering geometry? I'd appreciate any advice that y'all may be able to offer.

Re: torsion bar turn???

Easiest way to get 1-2" out of a Chevy/GMC. Will cause harsher front ride and tire wear if cranked up too much, can effect alignment. But most of us do it, especially with heavy front bumpers or 285 tires +. Under cab, where torsion bar cross member is will be two bolts left and right that you screw in or tighten to drive the "key" up and put more pressure on the bar which raises vehicle. Google search it for pics. Easy, easy. I mess with mine all the time, trying to find a balance of ride, tire clearance and look. When you adjust you have to drive it to flex bar and check fro droop or jounce. I use a tape measure and measure bottom of rocker or front frame horn. It is close, but not a science or exact.

Good luck

Re: torsion bar turn???

My 97 Burb K1500 had began to ride low in front last year. 10 yrs, it's expected. I raised one side up with a floor jack to lower the wheel and unload the suspension then tightened the torsion bar bolt 3 1/2 turns then proceded to the other side and did the same. It raised my truck right at 2 full inches. I also run 265/70/16 tires and my ride actually got better since the control arms were not hitting the bump stops any more.
I have no pics but it's real easy.
