My 72c10 search

So i took yesturday afternoon off to take my Impala ss to its new owner, and go get my lady a new ring. Instead i called into work said i was taking the whole day off instead so i could head 2 hours 1 way up the state to look at a 72 C10 Custom deluxe i saw on CL.
I called them up a couple days before, and the, what sounded like a 100 year old gentleman answered the phone.

Me "do you still have that old truck for sale?"
him "yup"
me "whats the mileage?"
him "104k"
me "is it rusty"
him "nope"
me "does it go ok"
him "tranny goes fine in forward, reverse is sluggish"
me "can you send me more pics"
him (screaming to someone) " can we send pics to this guy of that 89 on that internet"
me "NO , the 72 C10"
him "c10?"
me "the custom deluxe"
him "oh ya, thats a great truck"
me "mileage?"
him "don't know"
me "is it s trailing arm or leaf rearend"
him "don't know"
me "can you look?"
him "yup"

So it went on like this for another 20 minutes, he wasn't sure what it had, the guys in the shop thought it was leaf. Said it had NO rust.
He read me the SPID and it has alot of cool stuff. So i headed out.

The next post shows my findings after 85 miles one way to see it.

Re: My 72c10 search

But, the interior was very nice. I really wanted to buy it for that. Its identical to mine. And it was all there.

The doors other than someone cut the wholes for speakers were very nice.

Re: My 72c10 search

The truck was bad, there was no bed floor, its was flintstoned big time. The fenders where fixable, the cab was maybe fixable. Had a good motor, and lots of options. (see SPID pic, the tilt column was missing, at least i assume thats tilt N33?)

But i could see spending $2900 on it. I made the guy that happen to be there (wasn't the old guy) an offer of $1500. He said he'd let the owner know, the shop mechanic said the guy that owned it said $2900 or nothin. Needless to say i hopped into the car and came home.

Re: My 72c10 search

On my way home i stopped and looked at this truck. $11,500. 72 SWB cheyenne super. Small block 400. Southern truck. Tach dash, tilt. etc etc.

The paint was all over the rubber door seals, the tilt was painted a different color than the cab, They had painted the dash in the truck, and painted everything behind it that blue. Very little surface rust, Nice truck, but it wasn't an $11,500 truck in my opinion. NO SPID either. Someone had ripped it off.

Re: My 72c10 search

that first one you looked at was a highlander. Hard to find with really good seats and those looked good in the photo. 1500 seems like a good offer. Hope you can find what you want.

Re: My 72c10 search

I don't think the seat cover was original, it had been replaced at some point. Looking at the color of the seatbelts, and it had new clean hog rings (?) on the seat cover.

I really wanted the interior, but at $2900 it will be there for along time i'm afraid.

It does look awfully good for a 39 years old. But it does have the scroll work in the vinyl. I've been trying to find a Highlander seatcover for my '72 for more than a year. Finally, board member Pickup Man said he can get me one. Don't know if it will have the scroll work.

I'd say 2K from the photos. Really good looking project I think. Just my 2 cents. 1500 is a really good offer though.

Re: My 72c10 search

I actually wonder the same thing about the SPID. I didn't look to see if the vin on the cab matched the GBL vin.

Here is mine.
