Turbo question
Ok i have a 4 bolt main 350 out of a 69 corvette. the question is can my motor handle any boost from a turbo. If so how much could it handle? The motor has less than 20,000 miles on it. Thanks for your help guy.

maybe 5lbs..but you need to have tha fuel & ign. system up to snuff.. you can always build tha system on tha motor you got..run low boost, then build a stronger one to hold more boost.

Too little info to really tell - does the motor have forged pistons & what's the compression ratio? If it's hyper-eutectic's or cast pistons & you run much boost you'll mess 'em up quick & if your compression is already high you'll do about the same...
If it's well built & has the right parts you should be able to run up to around 8-psi as long as you use premium fuel, watch the timing & run some sort of intercooler.

Not necessarily saying that, you just need to know more about your motor before you go through the expense of installing a turbo & it possibly destroying or damaging your engine.

Well i looked up vins for my motor and its tellin me that the compression is pretty low like 8.5:1. And has hyper piston if i read it right. 39007010 is the cast number and it is 350 4 bolt main.

Well, you could probably run one then, just keep your boost below 8psi. You'll also need to run something like an MSD boost timing control that will retard your timing when it senses knocking - detonation will KILL hyper-eutectic pistons in a hurry!!!
Realistically given the cost comparison you'd be MUCH better off simply converting to an LS based motor. But if you're stuck on the turbo deal then just go at it slow & set-it up right - better to spend a little more now than a lot later!!! |

Check out the LSX Swap section in the engine performance area on here - there is a TON of information & good experience on there to assist you!!! Just go to the little "Forum Jump" deal at the bottom right & scroll down until you find it.
There's a ton of companies that sell stand-alone EFI harnesses for most of the motors available. You can even swap it over to run your carburetor on there if you'd like that look better - but why sacrifice the mileage if you ask me... |

EASILY!!!! Just getting a custom tune on a factory ECM with a late model 6.0L will net you incredible power & drivability!!!!
