What gear do I have? No codes
I am trying to figure out my rear end ratio with no luck. I think it needs steeper gears but I'm not sure where it's at now. I don't have any of the codes, they're gone from the glove box. I tried marking the tire and driveshaft but unless I'm crazy the driveshaft is only turning about 1.5 rotations to the tire's 1. So I have a 1.50:1 ratio?? HAHA I don't think so...
Any suggestions without taking the diff cover off?

Re: What gear do I have? No codes
3.08 would be my guess .If you have one tire stable and only turn one tire then you double the pinion rotation.
Frank.

That makes sense. I had both tires off the ground but I was only turning one.

Bite the bullet and take the cover off. The fluid needs to be changed anyway. The lube in the rear differential is one of the most neglected/abused things on nearly every vehicle.

Re: What gear do I have? No codes
That's a good point. I'm pretty sure I'm running 3.08's and I want something steeper so I will replace all bearings and fluids when I do it.
I have to change both the front and rear at the same time don't I? The gears I mean..

Take the cover off. The gears have the ratio stamped right on them. 41 11 or whatever.
