Rochester 4 jet question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 67 pu with a 71 corvette engine (350). The carb is a Rochester GM 4 Jet with a little RP insignia on it. Nearest I can figure it came off a 65-66 Chevelle. Can anyone tell me what model number this carb is? Everything I've seen says there should be a number somewhere on it but the above info is all I can find. There's not a tag on it. PO did a lot of engine/carb work on it before he killed himself last year. Any help would be appreciated.

According to my 65-72 Chilton's the 65 came with a 327 that used a Rochester 4GC. The 66 Chevelle with a 283 used a Rochester 4GC also and the 327 used a Rochester 4MV.

Just remember that these vehicles are over 40 years old and a lot of mechanics may have made some changes there.

You're not kidding. I got (supposedly) the correct kit for it, but it was dead wrong. So I shopped around looking at different models and years based only on the gaskets and piston (the one I have has a crook at the top - not a straight leg), The one I found was off a 65 Chevelle 327. Crazy that it fits on my 71 vette 350. Thanks anyway!

Nope, not a one. The only thing it says is Rochester, GM, 4 Jet, and then there's a small RP. I was thinking replacement part, but not sure, that's why I was asking. the only gasket / repair kit I could find is the one for the 65-66 Chevelle 327. The one for the 350 (which is what I ordered) has larger gaskets and a straight pin piston. My piston hooks at the top to tie into the accelerator linkage with a clip.

On the throttle linkage side but on the back secondary rear tower should be a vertical number that begins with 170. It will probably be VERY hard to see because they were only slightly etched in. wet the area down and wipe a dirty finger over it. You should see a number. (dirty oil on the finger works well for this.)
