is it me or is this town nuts..sanblasting/acid dip
I had some rust bubble up on the bottom of my tool box door. Knowing these doors are really bad for that, IM jumping on it. while I am at it, IM going to fix those ugly weld ripples then re paint the tail gate.
I figure the best way to do it, it to just have them acid dipped. Clean up all the rust in between the double walls, etc., so I call the one place in town that does this. he said that he wont because it will cause contamination in his tank that he will have to clean... wtf! OK, so ill have them sand blasted... they guy looked at the tool box door and was hemming an hawing..lol. Then said, it would be 40 bucks just for the door. It would take lots of time he said...... am i missing something here? hell i had my whole side car basted for 50 bucks.. geez the tool box door really needs to be soaked in something. there is lots of rust flakes in side... any ideas what to soak it in? guess im sanding everything..

Here is a link to a page that was posted a while back. Maybe you could do it yourself. Let me know if you do try it out. I always like to hear stuff about mixing of chemicals.

someone posted a link a while back about soaking a rested part in a molassas mixture..sounds crazy but they say it works! just stinks pretty bad and it takes like 2 or 3 weeks. best part is you can just dump it in a field when you are done..if I get some time tonight I will see if I can find it.
Other than that, have you looked into soda blasting? Wild

Tool Box Door
A fellow board member suggested to me that I drill 3 or 4 small holes right underneath the box,so that any future water have a place to leak out,Also to get a small type nozzel and just spray the heck out of the inside of the box with some type of rust stopping agent,,,,As soon as I get my truck running that is what I plan on doing,,Just my 2 cents worth...

i always soak my rusty parts in muratic acid you can get it at like a tractor supply or something for like 99 cents a gallon but dont let the stuff get on your hands i always hold my parts with pliers or tie a piece of wire to them then i let them soak for about 5 to 10 minutes and then i dip them in and out of a bucket of cold water a couple of times so i can touch them then

Muratic Acid is available at pool stores... got any pools down there?? It will clean rust off parts, and it isn't that hard on your hands... stings a little especially in cuts) , but it cleans your hands good too!!! Be sure to treat it inside after the rinsing, or it will flash rust again.
