New '64 Burban owner to the board

I've been on here a month or two doing research and have had the suburban sitting while I have been handling other things. I got to empty all the parts out the other day and even drive it around the block yesterday and it was a blast.

I have huge plans for it but I am poor, in school, work full time and have a 2yr old daughter so those are my excuses up front as to why it will take me years to complete! As it sits its not terrible but I plan on doing air bags, full leather interior out of a newer suburban, and a 5.3 or 6.0 fuel injected engine. Not sure what I'll start on first but I'll bring this thread from the dead as I get things done. Just got my 20x40 shop built and still need to finish the electric but its almost ready for the suburbans long term home. I shot a few pictures of the shop, car and some of my parts I got.

I got a ton of extra parts with it (3 guage clusters for instance) so figure I'll go through what I need and don't and end up getting rid of the rest, but for now I'll sit on it all until I'm sure. Still have a lot of stuff to go through. I'm like a kid in a candy store going through the parts

On to the pictures

Heres a link to more pictures if anyones interested

Re: New '64 Burban owner to the board

She's not far away from me at all then cause its a small area. I still need to check out your setup sometime. I'm trying to decide now if I want to wait and go with a 6.0 setup or save some cash and do the 5.3L. I think the 5.3 will do everything I want to do

If you want just a nice economical driver, then a 4.8/5.3 will easily do the trick. If you want a closet hot rod, then the 6.0 is the way to go for that.

4.8/5.3 with the 4l60e and a mild cam, tune and such will get you over 300hp and close to 400hp respectfully.

You can come any time, what little information I have is open to whom ever wants or needs it.

Welcome to the forum

Looks like a good project. I agree with Woogeroo, keep it mobile and driving as much as possible. Otherwise if it is completely torn apart, it is easy to get overwhelmed with the size of the project and become discouraged.

Re: New '64 Burban owner to the board

thanks....I plan on enjoying it as I go. I drove it 0.3 miles and had a blast! so I can't tear it down for a long period of time. Will probably be hitting you up soon so I can do my disc brakes, been researching it and decided I'm going to do disc front and rear but keep the 6 lug. Hopefully I get a decent bonus this month and actually get to order some parts!

Re: New '64 Burban owner to the board

got my front clip for it and got it cleaned out and running decent. My shops waiting on electricity so I can really get after it. My first plan is to either do a dropmember or Z the frame and notch the rear with airbags. that will keep me busy for a while but once I get it driving again I will start collecting parts for the 5.3L engine transfer. I'm hoping to do one small thing at a time so I can keep it driveable. found out a few weeks ago I got another kid on the way so hoping to get the suspension done before the new arrival!

Congrats on the soon-to-be-new addition to the family ! I agree with doing small things at a time so you don't get overwhelmed.

Thanks Aaron, you are still on my list to visit but unfortunately it is at the end of the list so I don't mess up the paint!

I'm the one that met you at the NHRA event with my wife a few months ago.
My build is extremely slow but its going in the right direction

IMO going slow is much better than not going at all, congrats on the new addition!

Yeah man, I remember you and the wife. I don't blame you for waiting on the striping.....hell, I don't even have any stripes on MY truck !! You know how to get a hold of me when you're ready.
