Question Fuel Lines and Tanks

I was just wondering if I went to overboard on my fuel system and what you guys are using compared to it. Engine size and horsepower figures added please.

I have a an aluminum fuel cell holding 20 gallons and with it I used both outlets. I have -10 coming from the cell to my Mallory 250 filter and both outlets have -10 going into my Holley Billet 160 pump. From the pump I have a -8 line running to the regulator splitting into -6's to the carb. Im not so sure how power I'm making but when I did race it just to find out how fast it could go I ran 11.83 at 126 mph in the quarter. That's in my ElCo with a weight including me of 3550 pounds.

Re: Fuel Lines and Tanks

A single line -8 would have been plenty. Why the two feed lines to the pump? The pump to the motor sounds perfectly fine. Keep in mind -8 line is 1/2 inch inside diameter and -10 is 5/8's inside diameter. -10 line can feed 1000 plus hp.

Re: Fuel Lines and Tanks

I have the Mallory Comp filter too Dan,, did it the same way but with two 8's to the filter, -8 to a Mallory 250 alcohol pump (but running gas) and -8 all the way to the regulator (-8 return from the vacuum compensated regualator, and a bypass at the Mallory pump) and -8 to both carbs (two 4bbl w/ tunnerlram)

The fuel system is a bit non-typical but it idles at 6, is rock solid at 6 until it goes WOT, then the vacuum compensated regulator kicks it up to 9.5 and it stays there rock solid for the whole pass (data logging so I am positive about the 'dead steady psi' )

Same system feeds the 800HP motor in the Nova and also data logging rock solid fuel psi.

OVERKILL is way better than barely enough!!!

Re: Fuel Lines and Tanks

I run -12 from the cell to the filter/pump combo, -10 from the pump to a y-block that feeds the regulators up front, and a -8 return from the Magnafuel pump back to the cell. My system is way overkill, but like Marv said, overkill is better than not enough.

Re: Fuel Lines and Tanks

My pump has the return built in and its mounted right below the tank. So I have a -8 line running there.
Cableguy I ran both because to and from because I could and I had an in when KB Performance was still selling the fitting themselves [50% discount]
