Cooling Fan CFM Question
For the Guys out there using Electric Cooing Fans. What CFM are you using? I can get two 10" Pusher/Puller fans that are rated at 1250 cfm. Its around $20.00on Ebay each? So would 2500 CFM be enough for a 350 at .40 over flat top pistons, 292 grind Erson cam, and 193 heads??????
I welcome all opions are definately welcomed!!!! |

Re: Cooling Fan CFM Question
2500 CFM is plenty if indeed they do move that much air. Different fan manufacturers rate CFM differently so beware. Like hjewell2 said, mount them as pullers and a shroud is definitely a good idea. Should work though.

Re: Cooling Fan CFM Question
Thanks for the help... Any one got any pics? I will probally fab the shroud up myself. You said mount them as pullers. Does that mean mount them in the front (outside) of the rad, or the back (inside) of the radiator? I would think that I would want to pull fresh air from the outside accross the radiator... Right?

Re: Cooling Fan CFM Question
Pulling means behind the radiator pulling the air through.
Pushing would be in front pushing the air through. A shroud is a biggie on either one.

Re: Cooling Fan CFM Question
Puller is in back of the rad. It has more efetioncy then pusher in front. I have a single 16 in. 2800 cfm puller on mine. It is marginal on a real hot day with A/C on & in traffic. Like Oldspower says, it may not put out that much.
Sorry, my spell correcter got away. |

Re: Cooling Fan CFM Question
Thanks! Thats the way I will mount them. I am going to buy two 12" fans next week and make the shroud for them. I'll post pics when I get it put together.

Re: Cooling Fan CFM Question
I have a pair of 14" fans on my longhorn(Said to pull 1350 ea). They are mounted on a homebrew shroud (built from a tin shelf). The rad is a 4 row copper/brass, & I run painless controls (185 on 165 off). I opted for a 160 stat, & this combo flat works! The old truck runs around 180 on the hyway(no fan action), & will flat azz idle all day long in traffic on the 90-95 degree days in Illinois, & never bust 190 on the temp. They switch off/on in traffic. Re: Cooling Fan CFM Question
I got a jeep fan from summit and mounted it in the stock shroud (as others have to). I'm not sure on the CFM, but it was only $55 (with a price match)
