Mission accomplished :-)
Took the truck out for it's first real race yesterday. Only made 3 rounds of competition but it wasn't because the truck wasn't doing it's job. Short times are nice and consistent, 1000' only varied 0.04 all day long and was backing into the win light every round. This throttle stop racing is a kick in the pants!
2.5 seconds on the throttle stop and I'm on target,, first crack out of the box it was +.08 seconds from getting booted for a roll bar that won't pass tech I just left it there and didn't touch the timers all day LMAO. Hit shift point target times within 400-500 rpm, throttle stop times working good with what I wanted to do.... Now i just need to sit down with the data logs and the time slips and see exactly where on track all this sillyness is happening and what i can do to make better use of the torque. Seems kind of silly to spend all this time and money to make sure I go SLOW... I think I should be riding the . But hey,, I'll be doing it without a jacket, and sfi pants, and gloves and neck collar and this pig won't eat $3000 in SFI updates every 2-5 years.

Re: Mission accomplished :-)
Are you 10.90 or 9.90 racing it? We have run all the 90 classes at national events for a long time and if I can help on setup or throttle stop tuning let me know. A lot of folks watching from the stands don't see how it can be good racing but it's drivers game with a lot of finish line racing.

Re: Mission accomplished :-)
It was actually kind of consistant 1.55's (after the first two passes) but I don't have any idea how DJ. It's spinning pretty hard till the first throttle stop coming on. Have it making the 1-2 shift while the T-stop #1 is active, then it's spinning again just at going back to WTO at the release of T-stop-1 in 2nd gear. Trying to isolate just the T-stops, the air shift timer and the driveshaft RPM and will print a graph. I'm logging twise as much as the Edelbrock software will show at one time and even that is a BIG MESS on the screen. Scan to come....
Jimmy, I may take you up on the help, but not dot.90 racing. I have a unique issue with having to dial 11.99 or quicker for the ADRA superPro class, and can't run 11.49 because the cage isnt legal (am not going to cut up the back of the cam for the rear bars). So I'm basically just barcket racing, and have a index of anything between 11.50 and 11.99. This isw really but to run the summer months here in Az. The Nova is a mid 9 second n/a smallblock door car. Lots of fun in the winter. But the firesut, gloves, neck collar in 117° Arizona summer has beat me. I'm done with it. Will runthe Nova in cool weather, and with 11.50 I 'can' wear ajust t-shirt!! I won't, and will wear a single layer jacket 'just because'. But I 'could'

Marv,
Glad to hear that you made some passes with it!! I've always said that any day I can pull the truck back onto the trailer under it's own power after doing some racing is a good day!!! lol

Re: Mission accomplished :-)
Here is how we set up a stop for straight up pro tree 90 racing. The stop we use is a duel acting cylinder that we can adjust the exhaust on the solenoid to control the speed the cylinder moves to adjust how fast the car unloads after the launch and to control tire spin as the throttle comes back on. We have the stop come on as soon as we can and not affect the reaction times. On the dragster that was .03 and on Pauls Nova in 10.90 trim is about .3. When on the stop the engine goes to about 1800 rpm to make sure the engine is at a clean rpm. The shift is done on rpm after the the stop is back to full throttle. Short shifting can be used to fine tune the ET. The longer you wait to put it on the stop the less repeatable it will be and the tuning of the stop return speed will control the tire spin when you go back to full power. In the old days we used a bolt to stop the carb from opening up all the way and would short shift to help set the ET. This was before delay boxes and air shifters.

Re: Mission accomplished :-)
Kevin, here's the data log with most of the engine parameters pulled out. Take a look at the driveshaft RPM. Ummm yeah I think I have some suspension tunning to do now. LOL
Jimmy, everyone (I should say the throttle stop bracket racers here) are telling me to shift by time, not RPM will be more consistant. I know what I'm doing here is totally bass-ackwards from dot.90 tunning, and playing top end games with the second stop at around 900- 1000' . I've been burned by it more than once. My Proformaire says the standard is 1.5 :1 for ET correction on the stop. I'm sure it depends on a TON of variables, like 'on the stop' rpm, the HP, where in the track etc. But any words of wisdom to help figure this mess out? I mean it ran in my target ET all day saturday. Is just a LOT to learn here. It's so stinking boreing to watch,, but pretty fun 'tinkering' with the setup.

Re: Mission accomplished :-)
If you try shifting on time instead of rpm you will be happier.

Re: Mission accomplished :-)
That's where I've started Kevin. In fact it was a 'shot in the darlk' plugging in the tie for the shifts from the old logs when this motor was in the Nova running WOT end to end. Watched the tach real close for a flash of the shift light those first two passes. Then looking at the data it's not really turning enough. Not even geting to the HP peak except the last 1/2 a second of the pass. LOL,, we have a LOT of tunning to do.

Re: Mission accomplished :-)
Marv
We have tried both time and rpm on the shift and both will work. Rpm just worked better for our combination. On of the things we had trouble with on the timed shift was the length of time we were on the stop and the amount of power we had. The car would run 7.40 flat out and we slowed it down to 8.90. When the car left the line it went on the stop at .03 out, was at 1800 on the stop for 2.4 or more seconds and came to life. We would put a 6900 pill in the shift and the motor would be at 7200 when the shift was happening. The car would run 8.90 at 174. On the timer we would end up short shifting the car a good bit and with the 1490's on the back and the 4.10 gear the car did not like it. If you want I will pm you my number and we can talk about ways we have tried things and maybe some of it will help. Jimmy

http://www.small-block-chevy.com/ima...010/mhd058.pdf Only point was to show the driveshaft RPM rpm launch to the first throttle stop activation. I thinks I has some suspension tunning to do now. The old setup was good for under 500HP, It's only at 660 with this motor but the big stupid tires appear to not be as happy with the setup and 11psi as they were before. But then,,, she doesn't have near enough convertor, changed from 5.43 gear to a 4.30, added HP, added the data logger, spent a year sitting on the couch crying about a back problem,, LOTS of 'new' to toy with Jimmy, Let me get a bit more educated on what I'm doing and I'll take you up on the offer of some experience and expertise. MUCH appreciated. I'm using a single Dedenbear TS30 linkage type throttle stop, which I know isn't the 'ideal' but it is what I have. It has the 'bleed rate' screw on the giddy-up-go side, and I can see looking at the log it isn't coming off the stop to a low enough rpm, I mean I have a TON of things to work through before I can ever START to really be serious. Only thing it has going for it right now,, is first time out with everything fresh out of the box,, new motor / trans / gear / slicks / ... 1000' times were ET / MPH (sixty') density altitude 9.6428 / 102.8 (1.5844) 3125' <shrugs, needed a pass to develop ring seal> 9.5362 / 102.6 (1.5288) 3280' 9.5364 / 103.3 (1.5503) 3180' 9.5423 / 103.7 (1.5578) 3300' 9.5723 / 103.4 (1.5510) 3590' 9.5800 / 103.0 (1.5553) 3670' Was backing into the win light BIG TIME so 1/4 ET / MPH is irrelivant. Everything just 'falls' in place has me scared to screw with somethig that I don't know if it's frickin broke or not! <LOL> This thing will NEVER be quicker than 11.49 because I am NOT hacking the cab for the rear bars, just not going to happen. And getting in around a F/C cage is more than this old 'glued, screwed and duct-taped' back can do.

Re: Mission accomplished :-)
Man I know all about the back thing. 7 weeks today for the new hardware in my back. Back is the reason I sold the dragster. Will help any time I can. On your next test try going on the stop a 1/2 a second or less after the launch and come off the stop rpm some and see how it does.

Re: Mission accomplished :-)
Jimmy, I am running a TH400 in this, not a glide. Would that effect your suggestion of on the stop at .5 seconds?
