SET TIMING BB (fine tune by ear)

I've set the timing by ear on SB and BB Chevy's before and can get them running pretty good but can anyone tell me how to fine tune be ear?

Timing light man!!!!!! Thats the only way to go,
If you have to rent one from Autozone.

use a vacuum gauge and tune by max vacuum and the tune with your foot and butt torque meter

If you are trying to do it by ear, I have always advanced the timing until it starts running like crap. You will know because it will keep picking up on rpm then it will ping and act like its world is coming to an end, which if you leave it there will happen. Then back the timing off until it sounds healthy again. Shut it down, let it completely cool, and start it. If it fires off right away and doesn't hesitate off the line you are probably close. But a timing light will get you right on without all the hassle.

Save yourself alot of hassle......beg, borrow, steal, or buy a timing light.
