Fuel problems, hard starts

I just replaced my fuel filter between my pump and my carb because and since have been having problems starting my truck. I put a clear fuel filter on to see what what happening in the line while it sat and I can see the fuel completely draining out of the line between my pump and carb. Is there a way to prevent the fuel from draining back or is there another issue? I have a 4 barrel Holley carb and hadn't had this problem until I changed the old plugged fuel filter for a new one.

If there if I can see there is still fuel in the filter and line before the carb it will fire right up. If I noticed its drained it takes a good 5-10 seconds of cranking before it seems fuel gets to the carb and it fires.

The filter shouldn't be draining like that. I think your fuel pump is shot.
