stock mirrors on a 67 camper special
I just got this truck today, and haven't ever seen mirrors like these. Are they stock mirrors?

Not to nit-pick but that would be a Custom Camper. Ford had the Camper Special... ![]() I will have to look at my doors tomorrow. No mirrors on it but the mounting holes look similar. LockDoc

Re: stock mirrors on a 67 camper special
Was hoping to have something more definative, but here are some pics. from the Camper brochure and a clip from the option list for '67.
I'm thinking your truck was built with a small round mirror and these are an added accesory. My '72 had jr. west coast mirrors with a similar frame but very different heads. What does the left door have for mounting holes in it?

. . . .
Here's a '67 with the small mirrors - it was said to have 37,000 original miles. ( wrong wheel covers, though ) . . . . |

Re: stock mirrors on a 67 camper special
Well I found them in the '67 truck accessories brochure. In addition an old eBay picture of a '67 Custom Camper with the mirrors installed. Note the brace bracket variations.

Re: stock mirrors on a 67 camper special
Wow,I've never seen those on a truck before. I'm surprised GM offered an accessory mirror unlike anything from the factory. They offer the factory Sr West Coasts as an accessory but not the Juniors. The funny thing is,the juniors are totally generic and are found on Fords and Dodges as well.

Factory on a 67 custom camper I parted. Ordered as R V Junior upgrade. I thought they were West coast Jr's but the SPID says RV Junior

Re: stock mirrors on a 67 camper special
Yeah, they varied what they called them from Jr West Coast to RV Junior. Those are modified to be swung out. Normally the part that clamps to the arm is located to and bottom with the mirror head bolted directly to them. You could buy those extra l-brackets for modifying mirrors.
I found this picture from a thread in '07. I guess I have seen them before and forgot. But,in the thread it was never established that these mirrors were GM accessories. EDIT: Actually, now I can see these aren't exactly the same in the mounts.

Re: stock mirrors on a 67 camper special
Yes, these are known as "bus type mirrors" or "below eye line mirrors" and were period GM accessories. Looks like this one was installed with brace in wrong location. Other photo shows the "retrac" mirror, this was also a period accessory mirror and used by all truck manufactures.

Re: stock mirrors on a 67 camper special
Those D38 "Bus type" mirrors weren't original. They were either dealer installed or bought through the parts department and installed by the vehicle owner after the original mirrors were removed. They aren't what the factory refers to as "Below Eyeline". No Below Eyeline mirror was offered in 67/68.
The mirrors in post #9 are factory option D29 mirrors. The Bus Mirrors weren't original on the original poster's truck because his SPID lists no optional mirrors. The mirrors in post #11 are aftermarket.

Re: stock mirrors on a 67 camper special
Thanks for the info... looks like the dealer forgot to mark that down on the list of things that they did to the truck... the guy I bought the truck from took pics the day he picked it up at the dealer in '67, and those mirrors were on it so I figured that was the optional mirrors listed on the glovebox and window sticker. This guy was one of those anal retentive guys and had a itemized list of everything he did and when he did it on the truck. Learn something new every day...

Re: stock mirrors on a 67 camper special
The SPID on my 67 Slant Back is kinda hard to read but says D29 R V JR.
Check out the pic... I guess these are after market? I also have an extra door for this truck with the same mirror.

If I am understanding special-k correctly.... Reno your mirrors are the D38 bus mirrors like I have. yours just appear to have been painted black.

I believe Tim is saying we have aftermarket mirrors...see post #14
Whatever they are I think they are better looking than the factory RV JR's, at least your's are. ![]()

Next to wheel changes, the mirrors are the next most often changed items.
