If I use mineral spirits to strip all the 1980s tint film from my windows will it hurt or remove the factory tint?
Is there a better way to strip old tint?

The factory tint is part of the glass. You can't hurt it.

I use a razor blade scraper to remove window film. Use some glass cleaner on the glass in front of the blade to lubricate it and keep the film from sticking to it.

Been a long time but I recall peeling it off (and it stinks when you do that!) and just soaking the adhesive with Windex and using a razor blade. Should come right off.

Mineral spirits shouldn't hurt the window but it might hurt the gasket. I used a razor blade to do mine as well.

I've heated the old tint up with a hair dryer or heat gun first, it separates better. The adhesive that's left over use a razor blade.

I pulled the old stuff off mine, most came off in big strips but on the rear windows I had to use a razor blade to scrape it off. I then used cellulose thinners to strip the glue off.

Use ammonia in a well ventilated area. Will disolve the adhesives. Should be a minimal amount of scraping required.

Do this in the shade
If you don't have defroster worse in window. Score with a razor blade mor the better
We spray the window with soapy water. Then we stick newspaper to the wet window.
And keep soaking paper to keep it wet.
Paper help keep it wet to soak into tint.
Then start peelin and peelin and peelin
Very stinky

X3 on ammonia! Window tint companies say not to use ammonia based cleaners for a reason.

May want to use a respirator when you do it.

you can buy glass cleaner with ammonia in it at the parts store. Works very well.

Thanks for all of the tips, The windows are all out of the truck its a total restoration.
I want to use all of the original soft ray tinted glass but use new glass for the windsheild.

I've peeled it off by hand before, then used Simple Green to dissolve the remaining adhesive and a razor blade to finish the job.
