Anyone else using an Explorer frame?

I bought my 49 without a frame with plans to put it on a modern chassis. Got to looking at options and decided that other than being a Ford, the explorer frame was the best option. Get 4 wheel disc brakes, strong 8.8" rear, R&P steering tucked out of the way and easy to adjust torsion bar front suspension. I have the cab mounted and the all the mounts for front sheet metal and bumper done. Still a lot to do but looks good so far. Just wondering if anyone else has done this. This picture is prior to trimming the excess frame off that is sticking out from the fenders. I'll post some more pictures later if anyone is interested.

No, its sitting a little lower than stock. I backed off on the torsion bar tension and have it pulled down with all-thread ran through the shock mount holes to what will be the finished ride height. I really don't know how far below stock it is but it is enough to there I cut a little off the rubber bump stops to give it more downward travel and will have to do a few mods to get the camber right.
Also had to add a 4" section to the frame to get wheel base from 112" to 116.

That looks interesting. The trouble in this area would be finding a two wheel drive Explorer. I doubt if any of the local dealers have ever sold one. Or is it a four wheel drive minus the front axle and drive pieces?

The frames are the same. My 2wd frame had all the mounting tabs for 4wd parts. Front hubs are different but can use 4wd ones. They just have place for splined axle to fit in.
