sticking linkage
i have a 63 c-10 with a 3 on tree. The shifter linkage wants to bind up sticking in neutral and it's getting worse. What do i need to do to stop it ? Do i need to pull the column & take it apart to grease the different parts ?
I've heard of others having the same problem but dont know how they fixed it |

I think this is a very common problem with these trucks. My first 60-66 was a '63 like yours and it would frequently totally lock up on me, usually at a traffic light or some other inopportune place. As I recall, I ended up putting new plastic/nylon bushings in the linkage to reduce slop, adjusted lengths, and then lubed all moving parts, especially around the selector lever at the top of shift rods. This helped quite a bit.
