wiper washer not spraying!

I'll admit, I didn't really dig to see if there are any threads on the issue. I put a new pump on the wiper motor about a year ago and have only used it about 3 times. Now it doesn't shoot anything. I can blow through it and it will shoot fluid out, so i know the hoses are connected. Is there a check valve that could have gone bad? I really don't want to have to replace that pump. Too deep in the dash. Any help would be good!

Thanks!

Re: wiper washer not spraying!

If you can hear it clicking, you need to prime it up.

I take a small funnel that fits the hose at the jug and let gravity do the work. Hold it up higher than the pump and fill with water. Then run the pump. It should pull it in and start working quickly.

Then just put the hose back on and it should be good.

If your not hearing any clicking, skip all the above.

Re: wiper washer not spraying!

hoses need to b tight with no age cracks causing air leaks and all should fit in place very tightly to avooid airleaks too

Re: wiper washer not spraying!

Thanks guys, I hear clicking so i know that it's catching the pump. The hoses are all new was well as the pump. I hope priming will work. I don't want to gut my cab for a wiper washer pump.

Re: wiper washer not spraying!

I'm 99.9% sure that priming it will do the trick. Good luck.

I agree with everything but the water part.

Unless you live where it NEVER gets below freezing don't ever put anything in your washer fluid jug other than the blue stuff or similar.

Back when I worked at the shop I had numerous customers come in on the first cold day of fall with no washer fluid coming out the sprayers. They cheaped out and put water in there over the summer.

Use the blue stuff or similar to prime your pump and don't look back.

In theory if you prime with water you'll squirt it all out right away. In practice you get more in there than you expected then when you really need it you have ice in your lines.
