which trans should I use?

I picked up two th350's yesterday for free. I am going to assume both are junk and need rebuilt. The first one is a short shaft and the other is a long shaft with a lock up converter. would either one be better than the other? It is going into a 84 2wd short bed. thanks for any input!

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Nothing is in the truck now, I picked it up as a basket case. It was just a roller. The column and gauges were missing. Could have been anything in it. I have no driveshaft either so length shouldn't be an issue.
