Etching/designs etc on aluminum?

Im not sure what part of the forum this belonged in? So sorry mods, if ya wanna move it feel free!

I thought of an idea in my head, but is there anyone out there or any way for the fact to take a flat plate of aluminum and have words such as "chevrolet" like etched into it in cursive?

i imagine it could be done?! especially with all the technology out there.

could someone throw some insite on me about this?

Mask and blast, or acid etch I guess.

Re: Etching/designs etc on aluminum?

I wonder if the stuff you use for glass etching would work on aluminum.

do a test panel but i'm thinking you could use some actual sandblast resist (mask) cut with a computer plotter (check with a shop that does headstones), or try some thick vinyl also cut with a plotter and LIGHTLY sand blast it. Again do a test...

Re: Etching/designs etc on aluminum?

I use a company near me for cutting out various parts out of mild steel and aluminum. The one piece I had them cutout, I had a few spots I needed to drill some holes and they were able to etch the metal and put a crosshair in the location where I needed the hole.

I believe they used a laser cnc, but they told me thier water jet cnc could also do etching.

Place was laserfab located in central PA.
