High pitch scream?

Hey guys got a 71 350 4bolt built up and when I take it up to 4000 or 4500 on the highway I can hear a loud very high pitch squeel or scream coming from the engine I can't figure out what would cause such a horrible noise but I'm very concerned!

Re: High pitch scream?

Mine does that at 7500 -7800 RPM and after putting a video in the truck I found it to be the driver.. LOL
I would check belts, alt, waterpump (if its mech) a belt will scream at you if its loose or not lined up right.

Re: High pitch scream?

If its a metal sound it could be the thrust of the crank.
The flex plate hitting the starter teeth.
