2 1/2 Exhaust
Gentlemen and Ladies, here is your assignment if you choose to accept it. I want 2 1/2" diameter exhaust for my 1967 SWB coil spring truck that fits well. Now here is the rub, I want just the pipes and not be forced to buy mufflers I do not want. I know Magnaflow has a system that is stainless steel but it comes with mufflers that I don't think are all that great (not to offend anyone but this is my truck if you have them and like them...great). Besides the Magnaflow is a pretty expensive system. Most of the pipe only systems are 2 1/4" diameter and with the 6.0 LQ4 that will be going in it will be on the small size. So there is your task and all help will be gratfully accepted.
PS I am not interested in a crush bent muffler shop job, I will go 2 1/4 mandrel bent before that.

Re: 2 1/2 Exhaust
When I built my 3" exhaust, I used 4 mandrel bent kits from Flowmaster. These were a simple universal kit, and they were about $65 each. I also built my X-pipe into the system out of the kits. I ran Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, and had the whole system ceramic coated locally. It turned out real well, but I will try to go stainless next time. Good luck.

Re: 2 1/2 Exhaust
I'm trying to find a link, but Pypes exhaust had a 63-72 system. It was 2.5" mandrel bent.

Re: 2 1/2 Exhaust
I build my own exhaust on most of the projects I do using this kit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-670146/
Now just pick the muffler of choice.(the hardest part)

Re: 2 1/2 Exhaust
I forgot to mention, the exhaust must go over the axle and out the back. I am trying to avoid building a system but I will if I have too. I looked at Pypes and thought all their systems were with mufflers. Thanks for the response.
If I go the build it route, how many here would be interested in getting a system probed and bent up. I could see going that route with the right response.

Re: 2 1/2 Exhaust
Just found the pypes system....ah NO!! It is a really a leaf spring system for a 73 up truck and not designed for the long arm coil spring trucks. It will hang low under under the trailing arm crossmember, not possible for a lowered truck.

Re: 2 1/2 Exhaust
That's the strange part, they used to make a 63-72 coil spring exhaust setup. I noticed that while searching, as well. The new system is designed for 60-87. All Pypes systems are available with or without mufflers.

Re: 2 1/2 Exhaust
I used the Flowmaster 815936 2.5" mandrel bend Stainless U-fit kit after searching for a kit that would not hang too low. Here is a link to my build thread on how I did it and how I cut the holes in the cross member.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...382181&page=14 I still need to bring the pipes back to the muffler and add the H-pipe, but my welder is currently out of order |
