Tonneau cover pics

I did some searching for a tonneau cover and it seems Gaylords is the only company that sells the hard covers. Anyone purchase one?
Any pics of one installed.

Shorbed fleetside.

I found this pic, but they show more of the truck than the cover.
Not a good pic if you're the company trying to sell a cover!

They are nice bed covers, but they add another body line for the V8 era fleetside trucks like ours since they extend down the bed side (probably one of the reasons for the photo angle).

Mine is a step side, but here are a few shots of the Gaylord cover. It bought it in 1999 and used it for 10 years. Then it sat against the garage wall for a couple of years and is now back on the truck. It still looks and works like new.

Re: Tonneau cover pics

Great looking pics guys. Thanks!
Slowbuild, I believe you are correct. I think that is the same truck as in the 'ad pic' I posted.
I like the mint green and the light blue truck and the chrome trim on the edge of the red truck cover to tie in with the Custom side moldings.
Looks great on your truck Marke!!!! Definitely also shows the durability of the Gaylords covers
Clyde...dang, sharp, crew cab, long bade with a LONG cover, Sharp! Make sure that stays in the family

...heck, they're all nice!

Keep the pics coming (and any other info on the hard tonneau covers!)

Re: Tonneau cover pics

I was very frustrated in my search for a nice reasonably priced tonneau cover for my 66 fleetside. Since I drive it everyday I thought the tonneau would be nice to allow me to store stuff, since the cab does get a little cluttered, and to protect the wood bed that we spent so much time and effort on. I saw the gaylord and it is the nicest but it is the most expensive also, looked at Craftec, they have reasonably priced soft tonneaus that can be raised as a unit and they are simple to install and remove, and due to the design less expensive to ship. I called Doug at Craftec 1 year ago and they said we do not make a cover for your 66 fleetside truck due to the rear post. ???ARRGGHHH--------

One to never give up I called him today and asked him why they did not make one, he said they had not recieved a lot of calls for them, and the interior post got in the way. I asked him some questions and as we talked he realized it may be pretty easy to overcome this problem with some existing parts that they have. He is looking into the matter right now and said he would get back to me soon. these covers run $280.00 to $340.00 have a aluminum interior framework and vinyl cover.......with gas shocks to help i raising the cover.

Now I need your help for 2 things:

1. Would someone take a 64, 65, 66 over to Craftec in Indianapolis (Noblesville, Indiana) so he could take a look at it, I already provided dimensions for the swb fleetside and lwb fleetside

swb width 68 3/4" top--68 5/8" bottom of flange length 761/2"

lwb 96 1/2" long

the rear corner brace is 3" X 1 3/4"

2. How many folks would be interested in this product ?

here is a link to their website:

http://craftecinc.com/gallery.php

Look through the photo gallery and I think you will find it is a nice product. Doug is very nice and even said he would work with me on a custom built one just for me. I thought we should return the favor and see how many of us would want a soft toneau cover.........let me know Kieth

918-446-2245 or just reply here on the board........via e mail

www.tulsatruckcenter@sbcglobal.net

I am not making or selling anything here, just trying to make more product available for our trucks. Kieth

FWIW I have a craftec cover on my stepside and it is nice, well built, priced reasonably, and surprisingly weatherproof. Easy to assemble and install too though I modded the latches a bit for a better fit.

Re: Tonneau cover pics

A soft cover would be alot easier to lift, the Gaylord top on my dad's long bed is extremely heavy even with the shocks on there.

I would be interested.

Re: Tonneau cover pics

Thanks for the all the replies. I still like the look of the hard cover. I'm wondering how heavy Gaylord's X2000 cover is. It's a different material than the the other version they offer.
Still might consider a soft cover though.

I was told by a Gaylords rep that the cover for the shortbed fleetside weighs 90 lbs and the hinges weigh about 25 lbs.

Yes but how much are they? I think dad paid around $16-1800 for his long fleet cover

Re: Tonneau cover pics

Yes, the covers are heavy. However they are very durable. I had one on my 90SS454 and hauled construction material strapped to the top of the cover. You can walk on them, although Im sure its not recommended! I sold my original cover and ran into the guy that bought it a couple months ago. I guess he never fully bolted it down and during one of our monsoon storms it was lifted and torn off his truck. He found it down the street from his house with only scratches. He said nothing happened to it. I was lucky to find mine, on the '64, used locally for 1/2 price and I jumped on it.

Re: Tonneau cover pics

Heads up for all 60 -66 swb fleetside and LWB fleetsides trucks, Doug at Craftec is shipping me a prototype soft tonneau cover with frame and lift cylinders, after all final fitting and installation I will do a write up with how to instructions.....The price will be very reasonable if everything works out . Will advise as we progress. Kieth

Good luck on the soft cover!

Out of sight out of mind, I really wanted one to keep the leaves, acorns, and rain out of the bed of my 66 gmc This cover is only going to be around $300.00 including freight so at 1/4 the cost of a Gaylord I think it is a pretty good deal. Kieth ps love your truck....
