Help with Camaro tach!

Can anyone help me with wiring a Camaro tach into a 84 Custom Deluxe. I have tried 2 or 3, none have registed correctly. I even took one out of a running Camaro that works in the Camaro but won't read correctly in the truck. Any info would greatly be helpful, Thanks

Re: Help with Camaro tach!

Is your truck a 6 cylinder and the tach an 8 cylinder version (or vice versa)? that will cause the reading to be off. If it simply isn't working, it has to be in your wiring. There are only 3 wires, and they should be seperate. Tach signal goes to the terminal on the HEI (or negative on the coil), 12+ goes to switched power, and a ground.

Re: Help with Camaro tach!

I mess with alot of third gen camaros, almost everyone I ever had the tach was way off... The 86 z28 I just got the tach read double the actual RPM. But since yours was working fine in the camaro it came out of I dunno. Just something to look for.

Re: Help with Camaro tach!

im going to be supplying tach conversions for these trucks with repaired gauges that have the board modified to read accurate, but most likely you have the 90-92 tach that blows some resistors and has to have them calibrated and repaired, gauges should be available in febuary-march
